How to verify an AI answer about UAE corporate tax or VAT
Verify an AI-generated UAE tax answer by checking the issuer, current decision, effective date and business facts before using it in a compliance decision.

An AI answer can be well written, show correct arithmetic and still lead a UAE business to the wrong action. The problem may be an old ministerial decision, a missing condition, the wrong taxpayer type or an invented citation. Asking the model to “double-check” often produces another confident explanation without adding evidence. A useful review process checks the claim outside the answer and reconnects it to the business’s actual records.
You do not need to become a tax specialist to perform the first review. You need a precise question, identifiable sources and a clear boundary between an estimate and an action such as registering, filing or paying. The workflow below is designed for a founder or finance operator deciding whether an AI-assisted answer is reliable enough to use in preparation or needs specialist review.
Turn the answer into a list of claims you can test
Begin by copying the answer into a working note and separating its factual claims. “Your company is below the threshold, so you do not need to register” contains at least three: which threshold applies, how the company measures it and what obligation follows. Those claims need separate checks. A single citation at the bottom of a long answer may support only one of them.
Write down the business facts the answer relies on: legal form, residency, financial year, relevant transaction types, revenue or turnover, taxable income and any registration already held. Mark facts that the model assumed. If the answer changes when “individual freelancer” becomes “limited company,” entity type is essential information rather than a minor detail.
For threshold questions, use the corporate tax and VAT comparison to identify the measurement problem. Then verify the underlying rule with its official source. An article can explain the distinction, but it should not be the final authority for a changing deadline or a complex exemption.
Check the source, its date and the rule it actually supports
Open the cited link. Confirm that it belongs to the Federal Tax Authority, UAE Ministry of Finance or the official legislation platform, and that it leads to the named document. A plausible-looking PDF title or a search snippet is not enough. Record the document title, decision number where relevant, publication or effective date, and the exact section supporting the claim.
Next, ask whether a later decision changes that section. Official guides remain useful for explanations, but an older guide can accurately describe the rules as they stood when written and still contain an obsolete end date. Distinguish a proposal, a public announcement and an enacted decision. Where the source offers both an announcement and the underlying instrument, retain both and use the instrument for the operative wording.
Finally, read the conditions around the sentence. “Zero rated” does not mean every export qualifies automatically. “Resident person” does not mean every business receiving a payment in the UAE. “Tax period ending on or before” does not mean the same thing as a deadline for filing. If the answer omits the condition that determines your result, it is not ready for use.
Worked review: an answer using the old Small Business Relief end date
Imagine an AI tool says that a resident business with AED 2.2 million revenue cannot elect Small Business Relief for a qualifying period ending in December 2027 because the relief ended in 2026. This is an illustrative review scenario, not an actual customer case.
The first check is the date claim. The Ministry of Finance’s 7 August 2026 announcement confirms an extension to eligible periods ending on or before 31 December 2029 under Ministerial Decision 131 of 2026. That contradicts the answer’s end-date premise.
Correcting the date does not establish eligibility. You still need the business’s relevant prior-period revenues, residency and excluded-category assessment. If an earlier relevant period exceeded the ceiling, the current AED 2.2 million figure cannot answer the whole question. The corrected working conclusion is therefore that the date alone does not rule out relief; eligibility and election must still be checked. Replacing an incorrect “no” with an unqualified “yes” would create a second error.
Recalculate the example independently
Suppose a different answer estimates AED 72,000 corporate tax on AED 800,000 taxable income by multiplying the whole amount by 9%. For an ordinary-regime example with no relief, special-regime treatment or credits, check the bands independently: AED 800,000 less AED 375,000 leaves AED 425,000, and 9% of that is AED 38,250.
Then test the input. Did “AED 800,000” actually mean sales, accounting profit or reviewed taxable income? Correct arithmetic applied to sales still does not produce a reliable corporate tax calculation. Preserve the reconciliation from accounts to taxable income, and label the result an estimate until the required review is complete.
This second check is especially valuable with spreadsheets or software exports. Confirm whether values are expressed in AED or fils, whether VAT-inclusive amounts have been converted correctly, and whether a minus sign represents a credit or a reversal. Repeating the AI’s formula in another cell does not independently validate its assumptions.
Build a review trail before taking action
Use a small decision table containing the claim, business fact, official source, applicable section, verification date, conclusion and unresolved issue. Attach the underlying records without putting unnecessary personal or banking information into a public AI chat. A redacted invoice or a summary may answer the research question; the complete document should remain in the business’s controlled records where appropriate.
Assign each unresolved issue to someone who can close it. Examples include whether an activity meets a qualifying category, whether mixed-use expenses support input VAT recovery, or which date applies when an official service page and regulation appear inconsistent. A specialist should receive the conflicting passages and the facts, not just a request to “confirm the AI answer.”
Keep preparation separate from execution. Before a registration, return or payment is submitted, verify the taxpayer, period, figures, approvals and official portal outcome. A model generating a draft or a tool returning success is not the same evidence as an accepted filing or settled payment. Save the actual confirmation for the action performed.
When the answer should remain unresolved
Stop short of a final decision when the cited text cannot be found, sources conflict, essential facts are missing or the answer depends on specialist judgement. State what is known and the smallest question still requiring resolution. That is a usable outcome: it prevents an uncertain assumption from silently entering a filing.
AI is most useful here as a preparation assistant: identifying questions, organizing documents, explaining a source and generating calculations to review. The quality test is whether another person can reproduce the reasoning from the records and current sources. If they can, the answer has become a reviewable working paper rather than a piece of persuasive prose.
